Caribou
Caribou has gone from electronic performer and DJ,
to emerging with a band, twin pummelling drum kits, frenetic rotation
between instruments to day-glo videos and animation.
From his humble beginnings with the theft of a sampler gathering dust in his high school's music department, through four acclaimed albums and an absurd collision with a litigous wrestler, Dan Snaith's (aka Caribou) musical life has followed anything but a predictable trajectory. Starting to play music in rural Ontario "there weren't many options aside from practicing music, playing music, and recording music all in complete isolation", through to a PhD in mathematics at University of London, Caribou has always explored and succeeded in pushing boundaries. His music has been praised worldwide as a unique statement in electronic music, fusing hopscoth melodies and filtered electronic sunshine with influences as diverse as the spiritual free jazz of the 70's to North American indie music of the 90's and the post acid house UK techno.
