New Music West Festival 2008 is proud to present Danielle Duval at The Cellar Night Club

Here is what you need to know about danielle duval: she creates heart-wrenching, resonant rock n' roll, writes and produces her own work and is a musician's musician. And she is so much more.At the early age of seven, danielle duval spent her days glued to her Fisher Price record player wearing out her parents’ Beatles records. The status quo didn't influence danielle then, nor does it now. At one point she was about to enroll in the Canadian Navy and even went so far as to undergo all the examinations required. However, mere days away from being enlisted, she went to a show that blew her mind and stopped her in her tracks. It became immediately and undeniably clear what she was meant to do; she turned down the Navy and began to pursue a musical career. She started recording songs on her old 4-track, graduated to 8 and 16-track, eventually made it to endless tracks, and is now back to the old school method of live off the floor.
Warren Bray (bass), Simeon P. Abbott (guitar, wurlitzer) and Michael Duffield (drums) make up the rest of the band. Together they create music that is at times dreamily melodic and at other times driven to feverish crescendos, all within the same track. duval can deliver saccharine and playful tunes alongside serious, melancholic songs without either seeming contrived. duval's organic, husky vocals sound like they come straight from her soul, whether she's belting out the height of a song or sweetly crooning about an unnamed love.
Duval's talent as a unique breed of vocalist has been recognized and utilized by various Canadian music scene heavyweights. Jim Creeggan, bassist for the Canadian institution the Barenaked Ladies, played bass and strings on two of danielle's tracks on her first album, mornings like this. Greg Keelor of another Canadian institution, Blue Rodeo, helped mix that same album. danielle also appeared on "The Bootleg Saint" and "The Resistance" on Sam Roberts' latest release Chemical City. In addition, many stages have been home to danielle and the band, including a packed house at The Mod Club, and the Canadian Music Week, Pitter Patter and Pop Montreal festivals.
