“It’s about digging into the depths of one’s character to find the strength needed to accomplish a monumental goal”, says Karen Fowlie about her debut album Pushing the Edge. “It’s a personal Olympics of sorts where the process of seeking and asking for what you need leaves you changed forever – stronger, calmer, in touch. On the other hand, the process can be so consuming that it feels like you’ve taken yourself to the edge where darkness lurks beside you. It’s the Push and the Edge.” That’s what you hear in Karen’s new CD, Pushing the Edge. It’s an exciting alt. country/rock collection of songs which delve deep down into human emotion and emerge with what’s best in hand.

A classically trained guitarist and occasional vocalist with the Vancouver Bach Choir, Fowlie has tirelessly studied musical form and structure. She then set off into the song-writing world armed with her sweet yet powerful voice and an ear for composition that inspires addictive hook-laden melodies.

The album was produced and mixed by Dale Penner, who is known for producing albums for Nickelback, Matthew Good Band, Holly McNarland. “Karen has the unique ability to write and deliver the most heart felt vocal and then turn around, take someone else's song and deliver it with the same heart felt passion", says Penner from his Vancouver studio. Karen now works with her band of veteran Vancouver musicians: Elio Martelli (Doug and the Slugs), Kerry Galloway (K. D. Lang), and Don Powrie (Grammy winning band Skywalk, Lois Lane
