Selfhood and consciousness: Who am I?

Perhaps nothing in the world is more interesting than ourselves, but when we inquire into the notion of our “self,” we find ourselves in very tricky territory. What is consciousness? Is it nothing more than a complex of brain states? Is my personhood just a social construction? Do I have a soul? Who am I, really?
