New Music West Festival 2008 is proud to present The Kindness Kind and Curtis Santiago at The Bourbon
The Kindness Kind began as the creation of songwriters Nicolas Danielson and Charles Larson, who met playing together on Seattle-veteran Dolour’s summer 2005 US tour. After swapping mix CDs over a post-tour drink they decided it was a match and began spending long hours in a room surrounded by music equipment and bottles.
Charles’ roommate and previous bandmate Kevin Bray joined them on drums, while Nicolas’ former bandmate Brian Todd arrived on bass soon after hearing the early demos. Finally, Alessandra Rose brought her stunningly clear and expressive voice to the mix to complete the Kindness Kind.
For their debut album, A Novel, the group headed into Bear Creek Studio (Blonde Redhead, The Strokes, Built to Spill, The Black Heart Procession) to record with Lucas Carlyle (assisted on albums with The Gossip, The Octopus Project, The Album Leaf, etc). The result is powerful: a vibrant mix of indie pop that moves from the delicate to the brash, shifting in and out of electronic moods, while expanding into sweeping soundscapes.
A second west coast tour is in the works for July 2008, as well as further adventures in recording

Anticipation finally meets realization in the Curtis Santiago's CD Release TKO! The album has been a long time coming due to coordinating schedules of all related parties including the hectic production cycles of Juno award winner Brian Howes and K-Os producer, Roger Swan. Curtis' own experience both in and out of studio are fundamental in building this unique project; his recent performance experiences abroad prompting new sound and freedom of expression. Over the last few years he has crossed the country performing at various events. He has toured the UK with DJs Vinyl Richie, Ali B, ASkillz and Krafty Kutz. He has recorded in the UK with ASkillz and guested on a Supercharged track. He has inhaled the spirit of Amsterdam and left his own brand of music there. The Caymans has left him sun kissed. He has truly been on an adventure.
