2005-03-14 : Urban Mixer Events Calendar

Hey Vancouver !

Can you read me…am I coming in clear…? If this email is messed up, you can always check it out online at http://www.urbanmixer.com/newsletters and drop us a line about the problem. We’re here to serve, and we have to have something to do in the mornings.

Here’s your Urban Mixer events calendar for Monday, March 14th, 2005, a personalized list of Vancouver’s hottest events and hippest happenings. Our secret agents are always on the prowl for things to spice up your Daytimer. Drop me a line and let me know what you think…I know you’re not shy!

If you want to be an Urban Mixer Secret Agent, be the first to send us the 411 on a wild and/or wicked happening and win an all-cotton Urban Mixer T-Shirt. Here’s a list of my personal picks for this week, links included. And remember to always surf safe!

EXCLUSIVE SOCIAL EMPIRE DINNER PARTY THIS WEDNESDAY

Here’s your chance to join the Emperors and Empresses of the normally members-only Social Empire and at an exclusive dinner party this Wednesday, March 16th. A limited number of places are available by reservation only, so let us know immediately if you’re interested. The venue is one of the hottest new rooms in Yaletown, and the prix-fixe dinner is a showstopper. If you’re Imperial class, yourself, and would like to attend, drop us an email RSVP ASAP with your contact details and we'll hold you a spot at the banquet.

URBAN MIXER SPEED DATING EVENT THIS SUNDAY

Hurry up and register! On March 20th,the Buffalo Club will play host to a dozen of the hottest ladies and gentlemen (well, that’s what their PRs say they are!) around for our Urban Mixer Twisted Conversation Speed Dating. Those who attended last time will recall something about a mechanical bull; I promise I’ll last longer than the combined eight seconds I did in my last two attempts. Ah, if only we had a dime for every time we’d heard that, eh?

HELP SUPPORT BNW AND CBCRADIO3

I'm not sure how many people in the group listen to CBC Radio 105.7FM late at night but if you do, you're probably familiar with Brave New Waves and CBCradio3. Usually, you'll hear something cool and innovative on the shows so when I heard this piece of news, I thought was important enough to let all you good people know about it... here's the scoop:

The CBC is trying to phase out/overhaul two important programs truly devoted to experimental underground pop, rock and electronic music; Brave New Waves hosted for the last 11 years by Patti Schmidt, and CBCradio3, the so far well-received web site featuring live music recordings and artist profiles -

Please voice your concerns directly to Jane Chalmers Chalmerj@CBC.com or jane_chalmers@cbc.ca vice president of english radio And Steve Pratt steve_pratt@cbcradio3.com (new director) and with your help, we can keep kickass cool programs of this genre on the air.

I'm not sure if this means that these programs will be replaced by something equally as cool but let's speak out to at least preserve the not even 5% of CBC radio that is devoted to truly independent experimental rock, pop, and electronic music as well as emerging art and artists.

If you'd like to get a brief history of Brave New Waves, check out the following blog by Carl Wilson: http://www.zoilus.com/documents/news/2005/000376.shtml#more. You can find out more about CBCRadio3 by visiting their website: http://www.cbcradio3.com.

TALK TO ME, BABY! Email comments to raj@urbanmixer.com

Vancouver is rockin’ this week and there are more events than you could shake a stick at, should you be into stick-shaking. If you are, there’s probably a specialty party for that, too! Be sure to hit our calendar of events on the website by clicking here. You can also click on the day of the week on the right hand side (should be displayed in green) to find out what we have listed on a particular day (I'm testing this out, so let me know if it works).

We update our website continuously, so be sure to visit us at http://www.urbanmixer.com often. We want you, we need you, we can’t live without you, but we’ll never ask for palimony, so come on and drop us a line sometime! Tell us what you think of our email, our calendar, our events, our aftershave. Not sure what to expect at an event? Feel free to e-mail me back with questions or feedback. Or the phone number of that woman in the black dress at Opus...
